Falling Asleep

Over the course of the next 19 days, William managed to get moved down to the specialist heart ward at Evelina Children’s Hospital where Adam and I got to spend some wonderful days with him and he had many family and friends visit. Over time though, the heart tumour started impacting on William’s ability to breathe on his own. He got transferred back to the intensive care unit where he underwent a second heart drain and was ventilated as part of the procedure. By this point the doctors were still unsure as to how to treat this incredibly rare tumour and eventually advised there was little they could do due to the position, size and nature of the tumour. And William was still so small. We made the very tough decision as parents to take him off the ventilator and let him pass peacefully. We didn’t know how long he would have afterwards but William fell asleep almost instantly in my arms. Our beautiful baby boy is now finally at rest having given us the best 19 days of our lives. We adored being parents to him and will never forget the joy and love he bought us. He showed bravery beyond anyone I’ve ever known and we are incredibly proud to call him our son.
